Having effective teamwork enables you to coordinate work efficiently and in a timely manner, contribute to tasks in a way that is satisfactory to the entire team and builds relationships with your colleagues.

To understand your behavioural attributes, you can apply Belbin’s ‘Team Role’ theory which defines nine clusters to facilitate team progress and includes Co-ordinator, Sharper, Plant, Resource Investigator, Monitor/Evaluator, Specialist, Teamwork, Implementer, Completer. Each sector examines 3 subcultures that contribute to a team and these are action-oriented roles, people-oriented roles and thought-oriented roles.

After completing a workshop about how to work effectively in a team, I compared Belbin's theory to my own behaviours when working in a group. The comparison highlighted my strengths as I have a creative mind enabling me to solve challenging problems, explore developments, communicate effectively, judge accurately after analysing options, able to turn ideas into practical actions and being strategic. My behaviours in a team showed I belong to the following team roles;
+ Plant
+ Resource Investigator
+ Monitor/Evaluator
+ Implementer

Based on my results a role I need to build on is Co-Ordinator. Some of the attributes of this role I believe already exist whereas others do not and feel this is as a result of my studies and part time roles not giving me this exposure. I need to learn and build on these headings; good chairperson, promotes decision making and delegates well. I was surprised to see mature, confident and clarifies goals as I feel theses are areas I would score more positively on. Going forward I will have these traits in mind so I can develop as a Co-Ordinator.

Overall my result will help me enhance my skills and work more efficiently with colleagues when completing a task.
