In our professional and personal lives our decisions can lead to us facing a crossroads and dictates the journey our lives will then take. These split moments can impact our futures and trigger a domino effect – “one event that can set off a chain of similar events”. (Amazon, 2021)
To correlate this, message the Five Chair Theory was introduced by Louise Evans to represent how our behaviours and attitudes affect every moment in our lives.
Each chair represents a different factor;

Chair 1 - Attack

The red chair highlights where we make the most mistakes by blaming, complaining, punishing, gossiping, and judging others.

Chair 2 - Self Doubt

The yellow chair indicates that we feel vulnerable and want to protect ourselves, so we judge ourselves.

Chair 3 - Wait

The green chair symbolises our awareness, observance, and consciousness. It is a sign that we are taking a closer look, becoming curious and showing interest.

Chair 4 – Detect

The blue chair is where we act like detectives analysing our behaviours so we become self-aware to achieve our end goal.

Chair 5 - Connect

In the purple chair we represent our presence by listening, showing empathy, compassion and understanding towards others. Understanding others allows you to step into their shoes, this is an act of generosity.
(Evans 2017)
(Taylor 2018)

When applying Louise Evans theory I believe I am more akin to chair 5 - Connect. I am a good listener and show empathy and compassion. Being a good listener is a comment that I regularly receive from friends and family. If there are areas I would like to consider developing on I would spick Chair 3 - Wait and Chair 4 - Detect, these are two areas that I will look to learn more on and improve precaution.
