SMART TARGET
Specfic
To achieve my career ambition I enrolled into the Fashion Retail Academy as a BA (Hons) Marketing and Communications student, my studeies have created an intrest for me in buying and merchandising. To gain an understanding of this side of the industry I am intending to continue my studies on this subject.
Measurable
Once completing my studies, I am to be successful in being appointed at an entry-level position such as a buying assistant or enrol into a graduate programme with a high street retailer. I believe this opportunity will present me with exposure to the industry and develop my skills and understanding of how the brand functions in a competitive market and the strategies they use to help growth.
My success will be measured not just by how I help the brand perform in regard to meeting its financial targets, keeping the brand on trend and satisfying its consumers but also by my happiness and fulfilment. By achieving these objectives, I will be able to grow and achieve a senior role.
My experience in a high street retailer will give me the skills needed to be an effective buying manager at a luxury retailer.
Achievable
During my career journey, I will face many challenges and will take these experiences in my stride to help my learning and development. As I progress, I will need to adapt to change and this may have an impact on my career path. As long as I enjoy my job, learn and am happy these are key attributes to my success.
Relevant
I believe my targets are realistic, my studies have given me a foundation that I wish to build on. For me it’s not just the skills that are needed but also interest and passion for the field I am choosing to start my career in, I have both. As an example, I like luxury brands, and my dream is to be employed by one of these.
Time-bound
Over the next 5 years of my career, I would have completed my studies at the Fashion Retail Academy where I learned about the fashion industry from a marketing perspective, the industry supply chain from product concept to consumer, development the of creative, commercial, and analytical skills. I took my learning on board and this helped the initial phase of my career.
Over the next 5-10 years as I built on my foundations in the brand, I began to progress from a junior team member into a senior in the buying department.
In the next 10 – 15 years, I hope to have achieved the position of creative director for a leading fashion brand. During this period, I hope to have the opportunity to work overseas.
